CECELIA DAVIDSONTake a look at a selection of Cecelia Davidson's work —the color does the drawing and shape is defined entirely by shifts in color, often dark and moody.
Featured Prints
"Iris II" is a monoprint by Cecelia Davidson that builds a single blooming iris out of color alone. Pink gives way to blues, purples, and yellows through the petals, finding depth and edge without a drawn line, while a dark green stem and yellow-orange beard hold the flower against an open white ground. Printed on 15 × 22 inch paper.
"Fronds Tropicaux #6" (2003) is a monoprint by Cecelia Davidson layering blocks of color over a blended ground — dark blues and purples rising into yellow, orange, and olive green. An orange block and a blue one beneath it both carry a swirling pattern, and fronds sit between the layers. An experiment in hard-edged shape against blended field and loose line. Printed on 9.75 × 11.25 inch paper.
"Berioz Suite" is a monoprint by Cecelia Davidson worked in near-black blue and a wash of pink, light blue, and dripping teal — a river view with boats drifting left, a band of color cutting across the top. Davidson gives the scene enough to read and withholds the rest. Printed on 10.5 × 13 inch paper.
"Berioz Suite II" is a monoprint by Cecelia Davidson worked almost entirely in blue — what reads as ocean against a night sky, framed by a black window. A thick red beam cuts across the upper reaches of the piece and through the frame itself, trailed by long red scribbles. Davidson builds the scene out of color and withholds the rest. Printed on 10.5 × 13 inch paper.
