JOSEPH PALMERTake a look at a selection of Joseph Palmer's work — linocuts and prints that often explore coaxed figures, animals, and invented forms from each page, building dense compositions in bold black-and-white.
Featured Prints
"Next Year" is a linocut by Joseph Palmer built on the contrast of two red-leaved trees against a field of layered blues, their color picked up by a red frame. Their strongly curved canopies command the eye while bold lines carve out the silhouettes below, merging along the bottom into forms that echo the ocean. Printed on 13 x 10 inch paper.
"Exercise" is a linocut by Joseph Palmer that fills the page with interlocking figures in black and white, broken by a single red form that balloons upward like fire. A sun, a woman, birds, and other shapes surface from every crevice of the composition. Printed on 7 x 11 inch paper.
"Adam and Eve" is a black-and-white linocut by Joseph Palmer that centers a man and woman standing together, given room to breathe against the denser field of animals and other figures surrounding them. Printed on 19 x 16 inch paper.
"Ptaki" is a single-color linocut by Joseph Palmer, worked in dark blue, where birds command the composition. Two rise from a dense ground while others perch, rest on a tree, or take to the open air, their curves shaping the surrounding figures. Printed on 8 x 10.25 inch paper.
